The New Jersey Titans split their weekend series against the top ranked Maine Nordiques in their first home games of the 2024 calendar year, earning two points in the standings.
Friday night saw the Titans concede the first goal of the game and went into the first intermission trailing by one. A three goal second period surge would put New Jersey on top, with goals from Nikita Meshcheryakov, Dominick Bartecko, and Kristophers Krumins in his return after playing for Latvia at the World Junior Championship. Maine would pull within a goal in the third, but a pair of empty goals from Meshcheryakov and Jack Hillier gave the Titans a 5-2 victory.
Saturday saw a tighter game defensively from both teams, but it was the Nordiques who again struck first in the opening period. Dominick Rivelli potted a shorthanded goal to tie things up in the second, but a power play goal in the third sent New Jersey to a 2-1 defeat.
With the weekend split, the Titans remain in 6th place in the division with a record of 19-15-2. The schedule does not get any easier, with New Jersey travelling south to face the first place Maryland Black Bears this weekend. Games are scheduled for Friday, January 26th and Saturday, January 27th, both at 7:30pm. The games can be watched live on NAHLtv.
