Titans fall to Rebels 3 – 2

Dec 4, 2021

Jamestown’s Carter Casper had a goal and two assists to help lead the visiting Rebels to a 5 – 2 win over the Titans last night in game one of this weekend’s two-game series.

The Rebels’ Marcus Kivela Carlzon opened the scoring at 3:58 into the first period. With a scrum behind the Titans net, the loose puck rolled up along the far side boards to Noah Szretter at the far side half wall. Szretter took a shot on net that was saved by Andrew Takacs, but the rebound came right out to Kivela Carlzon on the doorstep and Kivela Carlzon jammed the puck past Takacs and into the net to make it a 1 – 0 game.

Nick Ring tied the game at 6:12 of the opening period with assists from Michael Young and David Posma. It was Ring’s fifth goal of the season.

Jamestown regained the lead just 1:50 into the second period. The Rebels’ Mitch Lafay knocked Ring off the puck at center ice along the far side boards and brought it into Titans’ zone. As Lafay reached the bottom of the faceoff circle, he passed the puck back to Casper who took a shot that was redirected by Joseph Calvarino and past Takacs to make it a 2 – 1 game.

Tyler Sanborn scored his first goal of the season to tie the game at 4:02 of the middle stanza. After Chris Carroll won the draw deep inside the Rebels zone, the puck went back to Sanborn at the far side point and the Mesa, AZ native took a shot that found its way through a maze and past Rebels netminder Nolan Suggs.

Jamestown took the lead for good with nine minutes remaining in the second. Lafay brought the puck up along the near side boards and into the Titans zone. As Lafay reached the faceoff dot, he passed the biscuit back to Casper who took a shot that was save by Takacs, but the deep rebound came right out to Max Hamstad who buried the puck into the open net to make it a 3 – 2 game.

The Rebels’ Nathan Jurrens and Casper added third period goals to close out the scoring.

Takacs stopped 26 of 31 shots in defeat while Suggs turned aside 29 of 31. Click here for the box score.
