Titans fall to Generals 3 – 2 in Overtime

Northeast’s Brent Keefer scored 2:07 into overtime to give the Generals a 3 – 2 win over the visiting Titans enabling Northeast to salvage the two-game series between the teams.

The Red Buckets’ Blake Farrell was called for tripping with 6:09 remaining in the first period to give the Generals the man advantage. As time was winding down on the powerplay, Northeast’s Jared Scott gave the home team a 1 – 0 lead. Northeast’s Jackson McCarthy brought the puck out of his own zone, through center ice and into the offensive zone. As he gained the line by the near side boards, he made a drop pass to Sixten Jennersjö. As Jennersjö reached the faceoff dot, he passed the puck to McCarthy who took a wrist shot that beat Titans netminder Andrew Takacs high blocker side for his fifth goal of the season.

The Titans would tie the game midway through the second period. Northeast’s Kyle Schroeder was called for boarding at 8:07 into the middle stanza to give the Titans the man advantage. With ten seconds remaining in the powerplay, Levente Keresztes put the Red Buckets on the board. Keresztes picked up the loose puck at center ice and brought it into the offensive zone. As Keresztes reached the top of the near side faceoff circle, he passed the biscuit to Stephen Willey on his right. Willey sent a return pass to Keresztes who went behind the Generals net and made a wrap around and the stuff the puck inside the far side post past Northeast’ Jed Baliotti for his third goal of the season.

Northeast would regain their lead with 5:11 remaining in the second. Jennersjö picked up the loose puck just inside the Titans zone and batted the biscuit up to Michael Woll at the far side faceoff circle. Woll went to pass the puck to Ryan Gorden in the slot but it was blocked out front and the puck came right out to Jennersjö who deked around Takacs and put the biscuit into the open net for his first goal of the season.

Anthony Calafiore tied the game at two just 1:50 into the third period. As the Generals tried to bring the puck out of their own zone, Tommy Bannister picked up the loose puck and started to go to the far side boards. As hit skated towards the faceoff circle’s hashmarks, he went to make a centering pass out front but it went off the skate of a Northeast defender and right to Calafiore. The Staten Island, NY native took a wrist shot from the middle of the slot that beat Baliotti high glove side for his third goal of the season.

After regulation finished tied, the game went into overtime. As Keefer started to bring the puck out of his own zone by the near side boards, the Titans Rocco Testa-Basi fell which allowed Keefer to enter the offensive zone all alone. As Keefer reached the top of the faceoff circle, he took a wrist shot that beat Takacs high blocker side to win the game.

Takacs stopped 34 of 37 shots while Baliotte turned aside 31 of 33. Click here for the box score.
