Feb 4, 2023

The New Jersey Titans, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that defenseman Sylas Oberting has committed to play NCAA Division III Ice Hockey for the Tufts University Jumbos who play in the New England Small College Athletic College (NESCAC). His commitment begins in the fall of September 2023.

Oberting is in his second season the with Titans. After an injury plagued first year in which he appeared in only nine games, he has four total points (1 goal and 3 assists) in 39 games played this season.

“First, I want to say that I’m honored and excited to be a Jumbo. I believe that Coach Norton and his staff are building something up in Medford and I can’t wait to be a part of it. I want to thank my family and my teammates for all of their support, and I especially want to thank Craig, Bobbo, and Shaps for their help navigating this process,” said Oberting.

“We are so happy for Sylas and proud of him and his family on this accomplishment” said Titans head coach and general manager Craig Doremus. “Sylas has worked extremely hard to become a critical part of our blue line.  Last year his season was cut short due to injury, and he worked hard in the rehab process to get back on the ice and ready for this season.  Sylas brings so much maturity and leadership to our dressing room.  He is a physical, hardnosed defender who embraces his role and identity to be part of a winning culture and program.  Tufts is getting a tremendous young man on and off the ice.  We are excited to have Sylas continue to be a big part of our team as we pursue the Robertson Cup playoffs” concluded Doremus

Tufts University is in Medford, MA. The Jumbos are coached by Pat Norton.
