Christian Stoever turned aside all 38 shots he faced to backstop the visiting New Jersey Titans to a 2 – 0 shutout over the Maryland Black Bears to complete the weekend sweep between the teams. It was the Titans fourth straight win and ninth out of their last ten games.
It was the Titans first shutout this season, and it was their first since Patrick Pugliese stopped 25 shots to lead the Titans to a 7 – 0 victory over the Jamestown Rebels back on October 25, 2019.
Nick Seitz scored the eventual goal winner at 8:24 into the opening period. After Maryland’s goaltender Hannes Kollen made a point blank save on David Posma, the rebound came out to Seitz at the far side half wall, and he sent it back to Jack Ring at the point. As Ring started to walk the line towards his right, he sent a return pass back to Seitz and the New York, NY native skated to the top of the faceoff circle and took a wrist shot that beat Kollen high blocker side which knocked the water bottle off the top of the net to give the Titans a 1 – 0 win.
It was Seitz’s second point of the weekend, and he has earned at least one point in seventeen of the Titans last nineteen games.
Connor Pelc doubled the Titans lead at 8:52 of the second period. After Brad Zona chipped the puck into the offensive zone to get a line change, it was picked up by Maryland’s defenseman Bryan Huggins at the far side faceoff dot. As Huggins circled behind his own net, he went to make a clearing pass but it was intercepted by Pelc at the near side faceoff dot and Pelc skated towards the slot and took a wrister that beat Kollen high glove side for his fourth goal of the season.
Kollen stopped 33 of 35 shots in the defeat. Click here for the box score.
Since joining the Titans on February 8, Stoever has been undefeated in six games posting a 1.81 goals against average and .956 save percentage with now one shutout.
The Titans will travel to Danbury on Wednesday to play the Jr. Hat Tricks at 7:00 PM.
