The New Jersey Titans are excited to announce that forward Matteo Menotti has been signed with the team as a free agent.
Menotti is a 19-year-old forward from Libertyville, Illinois. He started the 2018-19 season with the Maryland Black Bears and recorded 22 points (5g, 17a) in 33 games. After completing his first practice with the team, Menotti spoke about his first impression with the organization and how he looks to contribute in the Titans’ second half of the season.
“I think the coaches are great and they have a way to move the boys forward, and I think the teammates are great here too, so I’m excited to be a part of it,” Menotti said. “Once we get the chemistry going, everything will start to come together, and hopefully I can do whatever I can to make the team successful.”
Titans head coach Craig Doremus expressed his excitement in acquiring the left-handed forward, and will look upon Menotti to give the team’s forward corps a jolt in energy.
“Matteo brings a skilled, hard-to-play-against game, I think he’s going to be someone we’re going to be looked to bring in and shake up our forward group,” Doremus said. “He’s had a decent year so far as output. We think he can create some competitiveness among our forward group and hopefully pushes us to be better in the next coming weeks.”
The Titans had a good look at Menotti first-hand this season. The Illinois native recorded three assists in five games against New Jersey, and Doremus went into further detail about what he can bring to the team.
“It’s just the way he hunts pucks and has that hard-to-play-against style. He finishes his hits, does the little things to make himself effective, and he’s been able to contribute offensively,” he said.
Menotti will look to make an immediate impact, and is expected to be on the roster this weekend when the Titans host the Jamestown Rebels.
