The North American Hockey League announced its Bauer Hockey Divisional Stars of the Week for week ending February 28 and Titans netminder Christian Stoever was named the East Division’s first star of the week while forward Stephen Willey was named honorable mention.
Stoever was phenomenal in this past weekend’s sweep over the Johnstown Tomahawks. He faced a total of 98 shots in both games and turned aside 93 for a .948 save percentage and 2.40 goals against average. He stopped all three shooters in Saturday’s 4 – 3 shootout win.
“Christian has been a welcome addition to our organization” stated Titans head coach and general manager Craig Doremus. “He has come in and been a stabilizing force for us. Christian is an extremely mature, goal-driven athlete. He stepped up big time this weekend with timely saves throughout the weekend. He also said stepped up big time in the shootout to secure the win. It was a big four points for our club. We look forward to Christian leading us towards the Robertson Cup Playoffs” stated Doremus.
The Northville, MI native has played in four games since he has joined the Titans posting a 4 – 0 record with 2.20 goals against average and .947 save percentage. This is the second week in a row that Stoever has received weekly/monthly league recognition.
Willey had two of the three regulation goals in the Titans win Saturday night. He scored the game tying goal with ten seconds remaining in the game to force it to overtime.
The Shelton, CT native, who is committed to Army, has seventeen points (8 goals and 9 assists) in 30 games this season. Willey was named the East Division’s second star of the week for week ending January 31.
