Stanley commits to Salve Regina

Aug 5, 2019

The New Jersey Titans are proud to announce that Spencer Stanley has committed to play Division III hockey at Salve Regina University for the 2019-20 season.

Stanley, a 21-year-old blue liner from South Lyon, Mich., played three seasons with the Titans and collected a career total of 44 points (9g, 35a). In the 2018-19 campaign, he served as the team’s captain while recording five goals and 19 assists in 51 regular season games. Stanley is also the Titans’ all-time leader in games played with 150.

Titans head coach Craig Doremus spoke about Stanley’s arrival to the team in 2016-17 and his growth with the organization since then.

“There are so many things I can say about Spencer. He was a foundational part of this organization and one of the very first pieces we identified and secured when I came aboard with the Titans,” Doremus said. “He has been everything we hoped for and more, and Spencer played such a critical role in all of the teams he was part of. He culminated that with being our captain in his final year. Spencer is a kid who we hope many future Titans follow in his footsteps. Salve Regina is getting an absolute stud.

Salve Regina University is a Division III program located in Newport, Rhode Island. Competing in the Commonwealth Coast Conference, the Seahawks are led by head coach Zech Klann. Stanley spoke about his commitment and his excitement in joining a program such as Salve Regina.

“It feels great to make the commitment. When visiting the campus, it’s pretty hard to not see yourself going to school there,” Stanley said.

In his rookie year in 2016-17, Stanley played in 45 games and quickly cemented his spot on the team’s defensive corps. He only recorded four assists in that first season, but as he continued to develop within the organization, he turned into a reliable two-way defenseman that would quarterback the power play. One of his most memorable goals came in the 2019 playoffs, when he tied the game with 19 seconds left in Game 2 of the East Division Final against the Johnstown Tomahawks.

“I feel my growth as a player and as individual grew tremendously while playing for the Titans, and Craig Doremus and Bobby DiRico had a lot to do with that. They teach you how to do things the right way on and off the ice,” Stanley said.

With his commitment to Salve Regina, Stanley will also join former teammate Danny Eruzione. The two played together in the 2016-17 season, and Stanley said he looks forward to reuniting with Eruzione.

“Playing with Rizzo again will be great. He taught me a lot in my rookie season, and I will continue to learn from him in my college career as well,” he said.

The Titans would like to congratulate Spencer and his family on his accomplishment, and we look forward to following his hockey career at the Division III collegiate level.
