The North American Hockey League announced today the format of the 2024 Robertson Cup Playoffs. Returning for the first time since 2015 is a Play-In Round, featured in the nine team East and South Divisions.
The Playoffs will begin after the conclusion of the regular season with the Play-In Round, which will see the #3 seed host the #6 seed, and the #4 seed host the #5 seed in a Best of 3 series, with the #1 and #2 seeds receiving a bye. After the round has concluded, teams will be reseeded and play a Best of 5 Division Semifinal, with the winners advancing the the Division Finals for another Best of 5 series to determine the East Division’s representative for the Robertson Cup Championship in Blaine, Minnesota
Each Divisional winner will be seeded based off the number of points they had in the regular season, with the #1 seed facing the #4 seed, and the #2 seeing the #3 seed in a Best of 3 series. The winners of those series will face off on Tuesday, May 21st, for a winner takes all National Championship.
If the playoffs were to begin today, the East would see Maryland and Maine receive the first round byes, while the Titans would travel to Johnstown, and Northeast would head to Rochester.
In New Jersey’s 2022 Robertson Cup Championship season, the Titans defeated Northeast in 5 games in the Division Semifinals, the Jamestown Rebels in 4 games in the Divisional Final, the New Mexico Ice Wolves in the Robertson Cup Semifinal in 3 games, and they secured their first championship with a 3-0 defeat of the Anchorage Wolverines.
