Goaltender Andrew Takacs makes NCAA D1 commitment to Colgate

Dec 14, 2021

The New Jersey Titans, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that goaltender Andrew Takacs has committed to play NCAA Division 1 Ice Hockey for the Colgate University Raiders who play in the Eastern College Athletic College (ECAC). His commitment begins in the fall of September 2022.

Takacs, 20, has been the workhorse between the pipes for the Red Buckets so far this season. He has a 15 – 4 record with 2.49 goals against average (14th in the league) and .916 save percentage (13th in the league) with no shutouts.

The Bowie, MD native has received weekly/monthly league recognition three times already this season. He was honorable mention for week ending September 26 and first star for week ending October 31. He was honorable mention for goalie of the month for October.

“I’m very excited to become a Raider and blessed to attend such a prestigious school as Colgate” said Takacs. It’s always been a dream of mine to be competing in a division such as the ECAC and receive a world class education. The NAHL, along with Gilmour Academy and Team Maryland, has prepared me to have a chance to play Division I hockey.

I have to thank every organization that I have been in since joining the league in 2019 but particularly the Titans. Craig, along with the rest of the coaching staff including but not just Bob and Kyle, and Stevie provide a professional style approach every day while making it enjoyable with a family feel. The team has been very supportive of me, and we’re on a roll lately so it makes the game even more fun when you’re a winner.

This is a huge step for me but the goal still, in short term, is to bring the Robby (sic Robertson Cup) to Middletown” concluded Takacs.

“We are extremely proud of Andrew in announcing his commitment to Colgate University” stated Titans head coach and general manager Craig Doremus. “Andrew has been a stabilizing force for us since being acquired after the Blaine showcase. He is an extremely talented, veteran goaltender who since joining our team on day one has been a pivotal part of our improved play. Andrew’s enthusiasm, work ethic and competitiveness has enhanced our team and he has a been a great mentor to his partner Ben Charette. Andrew has worked long and hard to achieve his dreams of Division 1 college hockey and we are so proud he was able to achieve this as a New Jersey Titan. We are excited to have Andrew continue his superb play as we pursue the Robertson Cup playoffs” concluded Doremus.

Colgate University is in Hamilton, NY. The Raiders are coached by Don Vaughan.
