The Aston Rebels were too much for the Titans during Monday’s matinée.
The first period belonged to the Rebels as they outshot the Titans 10-4 with three goals from Drew Blackmun, Chris Deprez, and Mike Merulla.
At start of the second period, it looked like it would be much of the same, but after several chances, the Titans carried some momentum and nearly capitalized on two separate power plays. However, they were unable to find the net before heading to the dressing room for the second intermission.
With 3:04 of carry-over power play time to start the third period, the Titans tried to keep the momentum gained in the second period, but hopes were dwindling after Dean Balsamo found himself on a two-on-one. Balsamo decide to shoot instead of pass and beat Titans’ goalie Harrison Feeney over the shoulder.
Later on in the third, it had appeared that the Titans recorded a tally. An initial shot left a large rebound for Roberts Smits. The puck went in on the shot but the whistle was blown with the puck in midflight as the referee lost sight of it.
Aston managed to outshoot the Titans in two of the three periods and just by one overall – 22-21. Feeney managed 18 saves on the night.
The Titans fall to 6-9-0 at home this season with an overall record of 21-12-2.
Next weekend, the Titans will once again face the Rebels in a home-and-home series. Friday’s leg will be on the road at the IceWorks Skating Complex while Saturday will be at Middletown Ice World. Friday’s game will start at 7 p.m. and Saturday’s game at 7:30 p.m.
