Young named NAHL’s East Division’s star of the week; Calafiore is honorable mention

The North American Hockey League announced its Bauer Hockey Divisional Stars of the Week for week ending January 8 and Titans forward Michael Young was named the East Division’s star of the week while fellow forward Anthony Calafiore was named honorable mention.

Young had six total points (2 goals and 4 assists) during this past weekend’s sweep over the Johnstown Tomahawks. He had five points (2 goals and 3 assists) in Friday’s 7 – 4 win, and he had an assist in Saturday’s 4 – 2 victory.

The King’s Park, NY native leads the Red Buckets in total points with 34 (13 goals and 21 assists), and he is eighth in the league in overall points. He leads the league in shooting percentage with 46.5% (13 for 28).

“Michael picked up in January right where he left off in December” stated Titans head coach and general manager Craig Doremus. “Michael is a huge part of our team, and he was instrumental in getting two wins for us to start the new year. He paced the offensive attack for us and was excellent on the PK as well.  We look forward to him continuing to be a huge part of our team moving towards the Robertson Cup playoffs” concluded Doremus.

This is the third time this season that Young has received weekly/monthly league recognition. He was the East Division’s second star of the week for week ending December 11, and he was the NAHL forward of the month for December.

Calafiore had five total points (3 goals and 2 assists) this past weekend. He had a pair of goals and an assist in Friday’s win, and he had a goal and an assist in Saturday’s victory.

On the season, the University of Maine commit has 30 total points (14 goals and 16 assists) in 28 games played.

This is the third time this season that the team captain has received weekly/monthly league recognition. He was named honorable mention for the East Division’s star of the week for week ending October 2, and he was second star of the week for week ending November 6.
