Jan 21, 2023

Eric Charpentier, Tyler Sanborn, Michael Young, Ben Yurchuk and Brian Robertson scored to lead the visiting Titans to a 5 – 1 win over the Jr. Hat Tricks to complete the weekend sweep between the teams.

It was the Titans third straight win (all on the road), and it was their eighth out of their last ten games. It was the Red Buckets seventh win on the season against the Tricks in seven games.

Charpentier opened the scoring at 8:07 into the first period. Twenty-five seconds earlier, Danbury’s Nash Jacobsma was called for hooking to give the Titans the man advantage. Anthony Calafiore started the play at the bottom of the near side faceoff inside the Tricks zone, and he passed the biscuit to Charpentier at the top of the point. The Dartmouth commit took a quick one-time snapshot that handcuffed Tricks goalie Matt O’Donnell and the biscuit beat him over his blocker side to give the Titans a 1 – 0 lead.

Sanborn doubled the Titans lead with 7:14 remaining in the period. After Levente Keresztes won the draw deep inside the Tricks zone, the puck went back to the cage to the right of O’Donnell. Danbury defenseman Denis Radchenko picked up the loose puck and went to clear the puck but it was intercepted by Sanborn at the point, and the defenseman took a wrist shot that beat O’Donnell blocker side for his third goal of the season.

Danbury’s Wyatt Stefan cut the Titans lead in half at fifty-eight seconds into the second period after he picked up a loose puck off the pads of Zak Brice at the top of the slot, and Stefan shot it into the empty net for his fifth goal of the season.

The Titans regained their two-goal lead at 7:47 into the middle stanza on Young’s fifteenth goal of the season. Charpentier picked up the loose puck along the near side boards and made a cross-ice pass through the neutral zone to Calafiore. As Calafiore gained the line, he passed the puck to Brendan Dumas at the top of the slot and he immediately passed the biscuit to Young. As Young cut across the goalmouth, had backhanded the puck through O’Donnell’s five hole to make it 3 – 1.

Yurchuck scored a powerplay goal at 10:42 into the second to make it 4 – 1, and Robertson scored at 5:48 into the third period to make it 5 – 1 and close out the scoring.

Brice stopped 20 of 21 shots in the victory while O’Donnell turned aside 33 of 38. Click here for the complete box score.

The Titans will play the Rebels next weekend in another home-and-home series with the first game being played at Hollydell and Saturday’s game at the Middletown Sports Complex.
