Feb 18, 2023

Michael Young recorded his third junior career hat trick to help lead the visiting Titans to a 7 – 2 over the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks to complete the weekend sweep between the teams.

It was the Titans fourth straight win – all against the Hat Tricks.

Danbury’s Aidan Farro was called for slashing at 6:12 into the opening period to give the Titans the man advantage. Fifteen seconds later Young scored his first goal of the game to give the Titans a 1 – 0 lead. Eric Charpentier started the play at the top of the point and passed the biscuit to Brendan Dumas on his right. Dumas took a shot that was save by Danbury’s netminder Thomas Kiesewetter but the rebound came right out to Young who jammed it into the back of the net.

At 8:12 of the period, the Tricks’ Max Matthews was called for holding to put the Titans back on the powerplay. A minute and half later Anthony Calafiore doubled the Titans lead. Dumas kept the puck in the offensive zone at the far side point. As Dumas skated to the top of the circle, he passed it down to Levente Keresztes who was to the left of the Danbury net. Keresztes took a sharp angle shot that was saved by Kiesewetter but the rebound came right out to Calafiore who took a wrist shot that went over Kiesewetter’s blocker shoulder and into the net for Calafiore’s seventeenth goal of the season.

With 6:53 remaining in the period, Matthews was called for roughing and a ten minute misconduct to put the Titans back on the powerplay. Young scored his second goal of the period came with 5:15 left in the first. Calafiore started the play behind the Tricks net. As he skated towards the near side corner, he stopped, turned and sent the puck back to Keresztes who was to the left of the Danbury net. Keresztes threw the puck into the slot where it was picked up by Young who one-timed it into an empty net to make it a 3 – 0 game.

Forty-eight seconds later Tyler Sanborn gave the Titans a 4 – 0 lead. Sanborn intercepted a Danbury outlet pass just outside their own zone. As Sanborn gained the line, he passed the biscuit to Dominik Bartecko on his right. Bartecko took a wrist shot that was saved by Kiesewetter but the puck slipped through his arm and Sanborn tapped it into the open net for his sixth goal of the season.

Young completed the hat trick at 9:37 into the middle stanza to make it 5 – 0.

Danbury attempted to make a comeback by scoring two goals within thirteen seconds of each other towards the end of the second but it wasn’t enough as Dumas scored his ninth and tenth goals of the season to make it a 7 – 2 game and close out the scoring.

Marino Ramirez stopped 20 of 22 shots while Kiesewetter turned aside 33 of 40. Click here for the complete box score.
