SOLDOTNA, ALASKA – After winning comfortably 7-3 against the Kenai River Brown Bears Friday night, the Titans dropped the rubber match 3-2 in overtime.

The Titans are now tied with the Aston Rebels for first place in the East Division with 70 points each and identical 33-19-4 records.

What made Saturday’s loss sting more was that Kenai River tied the game with just 35 seconds left in the third period on the power play, before ultimately getting the game winner just 1:09 into the overtime.

Having committed to Army earlier in the week, Andrew Durham recorded a hat trick in Friday’s game, while adding a goal on Saturday. The four-goal weekend ups Durham’s total to 15 goals on the season.

Bruno Birzitis also added a goal and two assists in both games combined, bringing his point total to a team-high 40 points. Jesse Farabee is right behind Birzitis with 39 points after scoring two goals and two assists as well.

Spencer Wright made 29 stops on 32 of the Brown Bears’ shots on goal, earning himself the win. Jack Berry didn’t face nearly as many shots. He made only 18 saves as Kenai River only put up 20 shots on the board. Berry took the overtime loss.

Next weekend, the Titans will travel further north to face the Fairbanks Ice Dogs for the third and fourth time this season at the Big Dipper Ice Arena. The Ice Dogs swept the Titans back on Dec. 18 and 19 respectively.
