The New Jersey Titans Keep Girls in the Game — At the Highest Level

Mar 30, 2019

Middletown, NJ — The New Jersey Junior Titans received approval from the Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association (AAHA) for Tier 1 national bound charters at both the U14 and U16 levels for the 2019-2020 season. This follows a successful 2018-2019 season at U14 Tier 1 in which the team won the U14 Tier 1 regular season Mid Atlantic Women’s Hockey Association (MAWHA) championship with a record of 6-0-2, won the MAWHA playoffs, and the U14 Tier 1 AAHA district championship by defeating the New Jersey Colonials by scores of 3-1 and 1-0.  As a result of winning the AAHA district championship, the U14 Tier 1 Titans qualified for the USA Hockey 2019 National Championship in Irvine California taking place April 4 – 8. This is the first time in the club’s history that the Titans qualified to represent the Atlantic District at the USA Hockey National Championship at the Tier 1 level. Previously, the Titans represented the Atlantic District at National Championships at U14 Tier 2 (2014) and U16 Tier 2 (2015).

The New Jersey Titans are committed to growing the game of women’s hockey in the Atlantic District and now, with the U16 and U14 Tier 1 charters in place in Monmouth County, more female players in New Jersey will have the opportunity to play youth hockey at the highest level possible. “Women’s hockey is one of the fastest growing youth sports in the country and the New Jersey Junior Titans will continue to be a positive force supporting female athletes who wish to pursue ice hockey,” said Matthew Kiernan, New Jersey Titans women’s hockey director.

“I am very proud and excited for the girls as they embark on their first trip to USA Nationals at the Tier 1 level,” said George Haviland, owner of the New Jersey Junior Titans. “A special thanks to all the girls and parents for their dedication to the program. The future looks bright as we continue to grow girls’ hockey from the grassroots level all the way to college hockey. There are presently over 20 Titans alumnae playing in the NCAA and with the addition of the U16 Tier 1 charter that number will continue to rise.”
