Mike Haviland Gets First NHL Head Coaching Win

Feb 16, 2011

Joel Quenville was hospitalized Wednesday, giving Mike Haviland the opportunity to step behind the bench as the interim head coach.  The Hawks, who are battling for a playoff spot with 7 other Western Conference teams won an important contest with rival Minnesota Wild 3-1 in front of 21,000 at the United Center.

Mike was humble after the victory, expressing concern for his head coach, and praising the players complete effort.  Mike is in his third year as assistant coach for the Hawks who took home the Stanley Cup last season.  Prior to that he was head coach for over 900 games in the AHL, so the head coaching territory was not so foreign to him.

Mike recently enjoyed the unique honor of being the first assistant to represent his conference on the coaching staff at the All Star game last month in North Carolina.

The Titan family sends our heartfelt congratulations to Mike, and wish coach Q a speedy recovery.
