Titans come up short, lose 4-1 in Aston

Jan 22, 2016

ASTON, Penn. – The Aston Rebels pulled away from the Titans late to win for the third time in the last four times the two teams have met.

Already trailing by two, Roberts Smits found himself on a two-on-one and decided to take the shot. It squeaked its way through the legs and put the Titans back in the game with just over 13 minutes to go in regulation.

However, goals from Austin Swingle and Colton McMenamin put the game out of reach.

Both teams headed to the first intermission scoreless after an even period. The Titans outshot the Rebels 7-6 and both teams went 0-for-1 on the power play.

The second period belonged to the Rebels however as they outshot the Titans 13-4. The Rebels also capitalized on one of their scoring chances when Chris Deprez fed a pass into the slot for Swingle. Titans’ goalie Spencer Wright made the initial stop but the rebound came right to the stick of McMenamin who then snuck the puck under the armpit for the goal.

Darion Hanson stopped 19 of the Titans’ 26 shots while Spencer Wright finished the night with 22 saves.

Tomorrow night’s rubber match has been postponed due to the weather and will be made up at a later date.

Next weekend the Titans will welcome the Johnstown Tomahawks for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday night. Friday’s game will start at 7:45 p.m. and Saturday is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
